NDLEA Arrests Woman Allegedly Smuggling Ammunition To Terrorists In Zamfara
NDLEA operatives in Zamfara State have intercepted a woman allegedly transporting live ammunition intended for bandits terrorizing parts of the North-West.
According to reports, the woman was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Tsafe–Gusau highway.
The suspect, believed to hail from Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, had allegedly hidden the live ammunition inside her luggage in an attempt to smuggle it through Tsafe.
The Chairman of Tsafe Local Government, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed the arrest, describing it as “a major breakthrough in the ongoing clampdown on criminal logistics and arms trafficking networks” across Zamfara.
“I want to appreciate the NDLEA operatives for their vigilance and dedication. This arrest has prevented dangerous ammunition from reaching criminal elements threatening peace in our communities,” Shehu said, according to Zagazola Makama.
He also pledged continued support to security agencies operating in the area, adding that anyone found aiding crime or banditry would face the full weight of the law.
“As a local government, we will continue to provide whatever support is necessary to ensure law enforcement officers carry out their duties effectively,” he said.
The NDLEA has transferred the suspect to a secure facility for further investigation, while security agencies intensify efforts to trace the source and intended recipients of the ammunition.
Tsafe and surrounding communities have recently witnessed increased anti-crime operations as security agencies continue to disrupt bandit supply routes linking Birnin Magaji, Tsafe and the Dansadau forest axis.
SaharaReporters had reported how Lakurawa terrorists, on Tuesday afternoon ambushed the convoy of Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, the Member representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency in the Niger State House of Representatives, killing a soldier and injuring others.
SaharaReporters gathered that the terrorists also vandalised about 11 vehicles during the attack along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack occurred while the lawmaker was travelling to Babanna town for an official engagement, catching his security team and aides by surprise.
SaharaReporters learnt that the assailants, heavily armed and lying in wait on the road, opened fire between 1pm and 2pm, triggering panic among members of the entourage, including security escorts and political supporters.
Sources familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters, “One soldier was killed on the spot, while about eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The wounded personnel were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, New Bussa, where they are currently receiving medical attention.”
