New OPFY commander, Major General Idris assumes duty in Zamfara
A new Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, OPFY, in Zamfara State, Major General Warrah Idris, has assumed duty.
The Media Information Officer of the operation, Captain Devid Adewusi, confirmed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Gusau.
According to the statement, Major General Idris was redeployed from the Defence Department of Transformation and Innovation following the recent posting of senior officers by the Nigerian Army Headquarters.
The formal handing and taking over ceremony took place on November 3, 2025, at the OPFY Theatre Headquarters in Gusau.
The outgoing Acting Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi, appreciated officers, soldiers, and civilian staff for their support during his tenure. He attributed the operation’s achievements to teamwork and professionalism and urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.
Abdullahi has been redeployed to the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters as the Chief of Policy and Plans, NAF.
In his maiden address, Major General Idris thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in him and commended his predecessor for his leadership.
