Nnamdi Kanu’s trial: Nobody summoned me to appear as witness – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has denied being invited to give evidence in the court over the trial of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The minister made this rebuttal on Friday while speaking journalists during his media parley in Abuja.

DAILY POST recalls that Nnamdi Kanu named several prominent Nigerians as “compellable witnesses” in his terrorism trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The witnesses include former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma; former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

Reacting, Wike said, “You don’t become a witness by reading newspaper. Nobody has subpoenaed me.

“So if I see Wike listed as a witness, I will start running helter-skelter? No! It doesn’t work that way. If I am summoned to be a witness or give evidence, I must obey the court.

“As to why I was named as a witness, he who mentioned me there should be asked and not me.”
