Ogoni stakeholders urge Federal Government to include Ogoniland in national development plan

A group under the aegis of the Ogoni Civil Society Stakeholders Forum has called on the Federal Government to treat the Ogoni people as part of the national development plan.

Chairman of the Forum, Christian Lekia, made the call on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

Lekia said the appeal became necessary considering the revenue the Federal Government generates from Ogoniland.

“The government must treat Ogoni and its people as part of the national development plan. Considering what the government generates from Ogoni and the level of deprivation our people face, it is a serious concern. Life has been very difficult for our people. The government and oil companies must ensure that oil exploration is carried out responsibly,” he said.
