Outrage trails Senator Sadiq Umar’s comment on banditry in Kwara
Anger has continued to trail serving Senator Sadiq Umar’s comment on banditry in the Kwara North Senatorial District of the state.
DAILY POST recalls that stakeholders and concerned citizens of Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of the senatorial district had earlier lampooned the senator from Kwara North in the National Assembly over his comment on banditry activities in the area, describing him as a betrayer.
Sadiq had claimed in his comment that “the security situation in the communities is being brought under control.”
However, the stakeholders described the statement by the senator as “deeply shocking and completely disconnected from the painful reality faced by our people on a daily basis,” asking, “Is this man really our representative or what?”
In the latest reaction on Friday, another prominent citizen from Lafiagi Emirate, Hon. Abdulkadir Lafiagi, expressed deep disappointment and outrage over Senator Sadiq Umar’s comment.
According to him, “We, the people of Kwara North Senatorial District, comprising Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, Baruten, and Moro Federal Constituencies, wish to express our deep disappointment and outrage over the recent comments made by Senator Sadiq Umar Suleiman at the National Assembly, wherein he shamelessly claimed that banditry does not exist in Kwara North but only in Kwara South.
“Such a reckless and insensitive statement is not only a grave insult to the people of Kwara North but also a blatant denial of the harsh realities faced daily by our communities, especially in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas, where incessant cases of bandit attacks, kidnappings, and loss of lives have become distressingly common.”
Abdulkadir described Senator Sadiq’s comments as politically motivated and a desperate attempt to please the current Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in his pursuit of the 2027 governorship ticket.
“In doing so, Senator Sadiq has betrayed the trust of the people who elected him and has shown utter disregard for the suffering of his constituents.
“By denying the existence of banditry in Kwara North, Senator Sadiq has murdered his own governorship ambition and lost the moral credibility to seek the support of the people he has chosen to abandon and deceive,” he added.
Abdulkadir called on the leadership of the National Assembly and the general public to disregard Senator Sadiq Umar’s false assertions and to instead pay attention to the cries of the people of Kwara North, who continue to live in fear and uncertainty due to unchecked insecurity in the region.
“Kwara North deserves leaders who will speak the truth, defend the people, and stand for justice, not politicians who trade their conscience for political favors,” he declared.
