Pharmacists accuse FG of favouring doctors over other health professionals

Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has advised the federal government to, without wasting more time, stop what it described as favoritism in the health sector administration.

PSN called on the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop what it termed as favouring doctors ahead of all other health professionals.

The association enjoined the federal government to ensure fairness and a level playing ground for all professionals in the nation’s health sector.

PSN President, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, made these declarations during the pre-conference press briefing held on Tuesday in Lagos.

Ibrahim in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, enjoined the federal government to end all forms of favouritism in the health sector.

He advised the federal government to also treat all professional groups within the sector with equal respect and opportunity.

Ibrahim warned that one-sided policies and preferential treatment have continued to breed disunity and inefficiency in the delivery of quality healthcare.

He accused the federal government for displaying apathy and favouritism in the administration of the nation’s health sector.

He added that such discriminatory tendencies could continue to undermine equity, professional harmony, and efficiency within the system.

He said, “We call on the Federal Government to ensure fairness and equity among all health professionals.

“There has been too much bias in the management of our health system, and it is time to correct this.

“Pharmacy and other professions within the health sector deserve the same recognition, consideration, and opportunities to serve.

“The time has come to eliminate favoritism and bias in the sector.

“We need a health system that rewards competence, not connections”.
