Police arrest 10 suspects for alleged assassination attempt on Ondo monarch
No fewer than 10 suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command following an alleged attempt to assassinate the monarch of Igoba community in Akure North Local Council Area of Ondo State, Oba John Adinlewa.
With the traditional ruler escaping the attack by the whiskers, the suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, were said to have invaded the community, where they launched a violent assault.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, during the attack, a resident of the community, Mrs Oluomo Ogunoye, was viciously assaulted and injured, with her belongings dispossessed.
Ayanlade disclosed that following a distress call from the community, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, deployed operational assets led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, with the tactical team effecting the arrest of the suspects.
The command spokesperson further stated that items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated pistols, one single-barrel gun, rounds of live ammunition, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons used during the attack.
Ayanlade said: “The suspects have confessed to their various roles in the unrest and will all be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
“The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment and responding positively, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects. Normalcy has since been restored to Igoba community, with security presence reinforced to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, further reassured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.”
