Police commence enforcement of ban on illegal use of tinted glasses in Yobe

Operatives of Yobe State Police Command on Monday commenced the enforcement of the ban on unauthorised use of tinted glasses as directed by the Force Headquarters.

DAILY POST observed that police personnel were deployed at strategic locations within Damaturu metropolis to arrest motorists who are using tinted glasses in their vehicles illegally.

In one of the locations, opposite popular Family Support Roundabout, DAILY POST also saw a heap of tinted nylons by the roadside, believed to be torn from vehicles whose owners are using without permission.

Recall that 6th October, 2025 had been scheduled by the Force Headquarters for the enforcement on the use of tinted glasses without permission nationwide.

Yobe State Police Command had recently issued a statement which indicated that crimes involving the use of tinted vehicles in the first and second quarters of 2025 within the state increased by 15 percent, with a similar trend observed nationwide.

According to the statement, the initiative to ban unauthorised usage of tinted glass is part of a renewed security strategy aimed at enhancing identification, data collection, and curbing the activities of criminal elements who conceal their identities using tinted glasses.

The Command equally warned motorists using covered or concealed number plates to desist from the practice, noting that all vehicles must display legally registered number plates conspicuously on both the front and rear of the vehicle.

“Any vehicle found without a proper number plate or valid documentation will be impounded, while the drivers will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” it warned.
