Russian senator declares US Tomahawks won’t save Ukraine

Senator Alexey Pushkov on Tuesday declared that Ukraine has no chance of victory against Russia even if the United States supplies Tomahawk missiles to Kiev

​Such military assistance would only spell doom for Ukraine and negatively impact the possibility of a permanent ceasefire​, the lawmaker warned.

“The United States can transfer up to 50 Tomahawk missiles; this will in no way change the situation on the battlefield for Ukraine,” he wrote on Telegram.

Pushkov said a “threefold” consequence will affect the prospects of resolving the crisis, the relations between Washington and Moscow, and global security.

The supplies “will inevitably lead to a​ new level of escalation of the conflict,” Pushkov stated, echoing the recent caution by President Vladimir Putin.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had advised Washington to exercise “extreme restraint” regarding its plan to reinforce Ukraine’s offensive systems.

​On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russian forces remain active in Ukraine because a peaceful settlement to the conflict remains elusive.

“Russia continues the special military operation at the moment due to a lack of alternatives,” he said in response to President Emmanuel Macron’s comment about Moscow’s “stubbornness.”
