Senator Sunday Marshall Katung Dumps PDP For APC in Kaduna

Mr Sunday Marshall Katung, the Senator representing Southern Senatorial district has finalized plans to dumped the Peoples Democratic Party.
This is according to a report by DailyPost.
The report stated that he will on Saturday, November 1, 2025, officially defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The official defection will signal the end of 25 years of the zone’s loyalty to the main opposition party in the area.
Katung’s decision followed weeks of intensive consultations with key APC figures in Kaduna and Abuja, including Governor Uba Sani and members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inner circle.
It is no longer about party labels but aligning with the new political reality in Kaduna State, analysts say.
Barely about two weeks ago, the Senator had dismissed reports of his defection as mere speculation, insisting that he remained a committed PDP member, while his media office at the time urged the public to disregard “unfounded rumours” and described them as distractions from his legislative duties.
A source told DAILY POST that Southern Kaduna can no longer afford to remain in opposition while development opportunities pass it by, saying that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, all senators from Kaduna South have emerged under the PDP as the region had long been regarded as the “Southern pillar” of PDP’s strength in Kaduna State.
