Shannon LGA cries against incessant attacks by bandits

The incessant attacks by gunmen on residents of Shannon Local Government Area in Kano have become a major concern for the community and its surrounding villages.

Speaking to newsmen, Yahaya Umar Bagobiri, Chairman of the Faruruwa Security Committee, lamented that the community has been under repeated attacks by bandits who crossed into Kano from neighboring Katsina State in 2022.

He appealed to the federal and state governments to urgently intervene to curb the menace affecting people who have otherwise been living peacefully.

Bagobiri said the community has faced serious security challenges over the past three years, with bandits entering Faruruwa and its surrounding areas to kill, kidnap, and steal livestock.

These attacks have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and theft of livestock, particularly cows, goats, and rams, making life miserable for the people, he said.

He added that at least 150 cows have so far been taken and the bandits usually come on motorcycles, sometimes in groups of up to 50, to kidnap people, kill residents, or steal animals.

Bagobiri explained that since 2022, the community has lost over 1,600 cows, dozens of motorcycles, and other valuable properties to the activities of bandits.

He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State to deploy more security operatives to prevent future attacks.

He also urged the federal and state governments, particularly Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to work closely with security agencies, especially the army and police, to protect the residents.

Following the incessant attacks, some communities around Faruruwa have been deserted, with residents fleeing to neighboring Katsina State for safety.

Bagobiri stressed that unless urgent measures are taken, the entire border communities could be overrun by bandits.
