Son of Ex-Super Eagles star, Emenalo withdraws from England squad

Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles star Michael Emenalo, has withdrawn from the England squad for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

The son of the former Chelsea technical director was initially named in England’s 21-man squad.

However, he won’t be making the trip to the Asian country due to injury.

Chelsea Youth reports that the 17-year-old sustained a foot injury during the Blues’ UEFA Youth League victory over Ajax on October 22.

The youngster is eligible to represent Nigeria or the United States, as he was born in America.

He has played for the Young Lions in a European U17 Championship qualifier against Malta in October 2024.

Michael Emenalo featured for the senior national team of Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The Young Lions still parade players of Nigerian descent such as West Ham goalkeeper Lanre Awesu and Chelsea striker Chizaram Ezenwata.

England, who lifted the U17 World Cup title in 2017, have been drawn in Group C alongside Venezuela, Haiti, and Egypt.
