Strike: Osun JUSUN condemns Chief Judge’s absence
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Osun State chapter, has strongly condemned what it described as the indifference of the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo towards the ongoing strike action by judicial workers.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, following the union’s State Congress held on Monday in Osogbo.
The union accused the Chief Judge of showing disregard for the welfare of judiciary staff and the public by leaving the state on the day the strike began and failing to engage the union’s leadership since then.
“The Congress vehemently condemns the Honorable Chief Judge’s egregious display of indifference to the ongoing JUSUN strike.
“Her lordship’s abrupt departure from the state on the strike’s commencement day, coupled with her persistent absence and failure to engage with JUSUN leadership, underscores her apparent disregard for judiciary staff welfare,” the statement read.
Adeniran expressed appreciation to members of the union for their unwavering support, trust, and loyalty, adding that their cooperation remained vital to the success of the industrial action.
The union announced that all financial transactions in judiciary accounts had been suspended, except for the payment of judges’ September salaries.
It warned that any unauthorised withdrawals from the accounts of the High Court, Customary Court of Appeal, or Judicial Service Commission would not be tolerated.
“To facilitate ongoing resolution efforts, financial transactions are suspended except for judges’ salaries for September. Unauthorized withdrawals from judiciary accounts are strictly prohibited,” he said.
Also, as part of efforts to end the industrial action, JUSUN disclosed that a meeting had been scheduled with the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, leadership in Osun State on Friday, October 10, 2025.
“The meeting is expected to focus on resolving issues that led to the strike. We appreciate the NBA’s contributions towards resolving the impasse and look forward to productive discussions,” the chairman said.
The union also commended its members for observing the strike and refraining from reporting to their offices and reiterated that no member should enter the office premises without the express permission of the JUSUN leadership.
“We commend members for boycotting offices and reiterate that no staff member should enter their office without explicit JUSUN permission,” the statement added.
The Osun JUSUN urged all members to strictly comply with the directives issued by the union, warning that any breach could complicate the collective struggle.
The JUSUN chairman reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of judiciary staff while calling for unity and continued discipline among members as the strike continues.
