TCN confirms blackout in Borno, Yobe after vandalisation of electricity towers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has confirmed that parts of Borno and Yobe have been thrown into darkness after vandals destroyed its Tower T347 along the Gombe–Damaturu 330 kV transmission line.

The spokesperson of TCN, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the incident happened on Friday at 5:46 pm.

The Federal Government agency condemned the vandalisation in strong terms.

It, however, noted that bulk electricity supply remains in parts of affected states, including Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University, Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, and Damaturu and its environs through alternative means.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that its Tower T347 along the Gombe–Damaturu 330 kV transmission line was vandalised on Friday, October 24, 2025, at about 5:46 pm.

The TCN team who carried out the routine inspection along the line route discovered that the tower’s legs had been cut off, causing it to buckle to one side.

“This act has resulted in the partial disruption of the bulk power supply to Maiduguri, Borno State capital, and Damaturu, Yobe State capital, and its environs.

“Meanwhile, TCN engineers are already on site, working to replace the damaged tower and restore normal transmission.

“TCN strongly condemns this act of vandalism and appeals to the public to protect national assets and report any suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office,” TCN stated.
