They should have gone to White House – Fayose mocks PDP faction’s protest at US Embassy

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has condemned the protest held by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the United States Embassy in Abuja, describing it as a shameful last act of a failed leadership.

Fayose said the suspended National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, and his group should have gone to the White House in Washington if they truly wanted to protest, instead of embarrassing themselves in Abuja.

In a statement on Thursday, Fayose questioned why the US or any European country should be involved in fixing internal issues of a Nigerian political party. He said Damagum and his team were to blame for ignoring the PDP constitution and creating the current crisis in the party.

He reminded them that a court ruling last Friday directed the PDP to conclude pending state congresses before organizing its national convention.

Instead of working to unite party members, Fayose said the group chose to suspend key officers, including the National Secretary.

He also accused them of dragging the party to court over legal representation, even though the PDP constitution clearly gives that power to the National Legal Adviser.
