Three men remanded in Kano for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping

A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Hauwa Lawan Minjibir, has ordered the remand of three men over alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, and causing grievous harm.

The defendants; Tukur Lawan from Korau village in Sumaila Local Government Area, Ado Usman from Makunturi in Bunkure LGA (both in Kano State), and Sanusi Suraj from Kubau LGA in Kaduna State were arraigned on a four-count charge.

According to the charge sheet, the offences contravene sections 97, 247, 272, and 298 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution alleged that the suspects, on March 22, 2025, invaded the residence of Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u, where they allegedly robbed the family of several mobile phones, injured one of his children, and kidnapped his 25-year-old son.

The prosecution further told the court that the defendants later collected a ₦15 million ransom before releasing the victim.

“Following investigation, the suspects were arrested, and the sum of ₦4.7 million was recovered from them,” the charge stated.

During Thursday’s hearing, all three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case was prosecuted by Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, while Sani Ammani and Adamu Muhd appeared as defence counsel.

Justice Minjibir ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to November 19, 2025, for the commencement of witness testimony.
