Tinubu’s service chiefs reshuffle timely — Security expert Bukarti
A security consultant, Bulama Bukarti, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to reshuffle the service chiefs.
Featuring on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST, Bukarti said the President’s action was timely and necessary.
Recall that President Tinubu on Friday announced changes in the hierarchy of the service chiefs as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
Reacting, Bukarti said, “When you have looked at what has happened in Nigeria’s security landscape over the past year or two, then you would realise that change of leadership is long overdue.
“Boko Haram, for instance, is residing in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Tinubu’s government and the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, before he left office in the last few years of his presidency, did very well in weakening Boko Haram, dismantling, dislodging and pushing them.
“But unfortunately, over the past year or so, we have seen a resurgent Boko Haram launching attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe states, in many cases killing the soldiers.
“So, you would say that our security system in the last year has deteriorated, and if the President is looking at that, then it is the right time for a change in service chiefs.”
