Troops kill armed suspect in Benue, arrest gun possessor in Nasarawa — OPWS

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised an armed criminal and injured several others during an operation in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS Headquarters, Makurdi, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Makurdi.

According to Zubairu, the troops engaged the criminal elements on October 15, killing one and injuring others who fled the scene.

He said the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 14 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the operation.

“The troops maintained dominance in the area after the operation, conducting patrols to reassure residents and strengthen public confidence,” he added.

In a related development, troops of Sub-Sector 2 deployed at Maraba Udege in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State recovered a pistol from one Mr. Ramanu Elizabeth at Maraba Market on the same day.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the troops apprehended the suspect and recovered a locally fabricated pistol. The suspect and the recovered weapon are currently in custody for further investigation,” Zubairu stated.

He quoted the Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, as commending the troops for their professionalism, discipline, and tactical efficiency.

Maj.-Gen. Gara urged the personnel to sustain the momentum of operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for law-abiding citizens to conduct their daily activities.
