UCL: ‘Disappointing, frustrating’ – Gareth Bale hits out at Vinicius, Mbappe
Former Real Madrid forward, Gareth Bale, has slammed Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr following Los Blancos’ defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Real Madrid suffered their first defeat in the competition this season, thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s second half goal.
Real Madrid also failed to hit the target for the first time in the Europe elite club competition this season with Vinicius and Mbappe unable to play a shot on target.
Speaking on CBS Sports, Bale, who played for Real Madrid during his active days, expressed disappointment over the performances of the two forwards.
“We didn’t see Mbappe and Vinicius in the final third work a bit of magic and bring Madrid back into the game.
“It was a bit disappointing that in that final third there really wasn’t that kind of quality that you expect from Real Madrid players.
“It’s frustrating, I think they complicate things maybe.
“Sometimes they just need to try and test the defender. They’re clearly faster than anyone else on the pitch.
“But I think maybe they don’t do it because there’s no one else in the box waiting for the crosses. Maybe they need that focal number nine.”
