UCL: Gyokeres brace inspires Arsenal’s 4-0 masterclass against Atletico
Viktor Gyokeres scored twice as Arsenal produced a stunning second-half performance to demolish Atletico Madrid 4–0 and maintain their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League.
After a tight first half at the Wanda Metropolitano, Mikel Arteta’s side erupted with four goals in just 13 minutes, turning a tense contest into a statement victory that underlined their growing European credentials.
Arsenal nearly took the lead in the first half when Eberechi Eze’s deflected shot rattled the crossbar, while Julian Alvarez came close for Atletico, testing David Raya with a long-range strike after the goalkeeper ventured outside his area.
The breakthrough finally came in the 57th minute, when Gabriel Magalhães powered home Declan Rice’s pinpoint free-kick to open the floodgates.
Moments later, Gabriel Martinelli doubled the lead with a curling finish after a brilliant solo run from Myles Lewis-Skelly, before Gyokeres bundled in his first goal for Arsenal in eight matches to make it 3–0.
The Swedish striker then struck again just three minutes later, converting from close range after Gabriel’s knockdown from a corner to complete the rout.
The win keeps Arsenal top of their group with three wins from three and no goals conceded.
Arteta hailed his side’s ruthlessness after the game, describing the performance as “a show of character, patience, and precision” as Arsenal continue their impressive Champions League campaign.
