Voters will decide Osun polls, Olajengbesi tells Wole Oke

A House of Representatives hopeful for the Obokun–Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has criticised incumbent lawmaker Wole Oke, insisting that voters—not political entitlement—will determine the outcome of the next election.

Olajengbesi, who also convenes the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network, faulted Oke’s claims that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has neglected the constituency. He issued his response in a statement on Saturday.

He also dismissed as “laughable” Oke’s assertion that military authorities had approved his request for military fortifications ahead of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election. Oke, who has represented the constituency since 2003 and recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), had suggested on social media that new military formations would be located in the area before the poll.

Olajengbesi said it was “unsurprising” that Oke had “suddenly remembered” the constituency because another election was approaching, accusing him of delivering little during more than two decades in the National Assembly.

“The same representative who could not attract basic infrastructure, who offered more excuses than results, and who failed to uplift the constituency entrusted to him for over 20 years, now seeks to hide behind cheap propaganda,” he said.

He further alleged that Oke had “made money out of the votes of the people for years” and argued that the lawmaker lacked the moral standing to criticise Adeleke, whom he praised for what he described as notable achievements despite financial constraints and political opposition.

Olajengbesi said Adeleke had delivered “solid infrastructure, welfare policies and innovative people-centred programmes”, adding that the governor remained “the only governor in Nigeria who has refused the usual security votes”.

He also rejected Oke’s claim regarding military deployment, saying, “It is therefore laughable that anyone would suggest that the Nigerian Army… will become a tool for any individual for personal political validation.”

Olajengbesi concluded that the electorate in Osun State now demands “performance, not drama”, and accountability rather than what he called “political entitlement”.
