2027: ‘Everything you do with Atiku is chaos’ — Babachir Lawal
Quick Read
“I wanted to work for Atiku. I had the belief that, given the way we are suffering in the North, we should not surrender the presidency; that, at least, our own man would, if nothing else, stop the decline we are in,” he said.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has launched a fresh attack on Atiku Abubakar, saying his experience working with the former vice president convinced him that “everything you do with him, there’s chaos.”
Lawal spoke during an interview on the *Naija Unfiltered Podcast* while explaining why he would rather support President Bola Tinubu than Atiku in the 2027 presidential election.
The former SGF recently left the African Democratic Congress following Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate and subsequently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
According to Lawal, he initially considered working with Atiku because of concerns about the political and economic situation in northern Nigeria.
“I wanted to work for Atiku. I had the belief that, given the way we are suffering in the North, we should not surrender the presidency; that, at least, our own man would, if nothing else, stop the decline we are in,” he said.
Lawal, however, said his previous dealings with Atiku changed his view.
He accused the former vice president of giving instructions and later reversing them after consulting other people.
“Everything you do with him, there’s chaos,” Lawal said.
He also delivered a striking comparison between Atiku and Tinubu while discussing the 2027 race.
“I’d rather go with Bola than Atiku because when Nigeria crashes with Bola, it might be an orderly crash, but with Atiku, it would be a chaotic one,” he said.
Lawal further described Atiku in unflattering terms, saying his position was informed by personal experience working with him.
The former SGF’s remarks deepen the political hostility between him and Atiku following their split over the ADC presidential ticket.
Lawal has since aligned with the NDC, while Atiku remains the ADC presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
