2027: FCT Igbo leader calls for fair representation, credible elections

The traditional ruler of the Igbo community in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Eze Ibe Nwosu, has called for equitable political representation and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwosu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that the polls are free, fair and transparent, with results that reflect the will of the electorate.
He made the appeal on Sunday during the 2026 New Yam Festival, also known as Iriji, organized by the Igbo community in Abuja to celebrate a successful harvest and promote their cultural heritage.
The monarch also encouraged Igbo residents in the FCT to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and participate actively in the 2027 elections without fear or intimidation.
He stressed the need for voters to elect leaders who would prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and contribute to national development.
Nwosu, a former Supervisory Councilor for Health in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, further called for fairness and justice in the distribution of political power, urging that all groups be given equitable opportunities to participate in the democratic process.
He also appealed to Igbo residents to maintain peaceful relationships with their neighbors and host communities, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, Nwosu said it provided an opportunity to appreciate God for a fruitful farming season and showcase Igbo traditions.
“Today, we have come to celebrate the God of harvest and showcase Igbo culture,” he said, urging members of the community to continue living in peace and harmony with their host communities.
