The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to commence nationwide distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to eligible Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday during a strategic engagement with journalists in Abuja.
According to the commission, the exercise will begin on Thursday.
The distribution will cover Nigerians who recently registered to vote, transferred their voting locations or requested replacements for damaged voter cards.
INEC said the exercise forms part of preparations to ensure eligible voters are able to participate in the 2027 elections.
Amupitan also said the commission was strengthening the use of technology to prevent stolen, lost or compromised PVC from being used by unauthorised persons.
He said the measures were aimed at protecting the integrity of the electoral process and preventing abuse of voter credentials.
The INEC chairman also warned political parties and their supporters against disrupting the campaigns, rallies and activities of rival parties as preparations for the elections intensify.
He urged political actors to conduct themselves peacefully and allow all parties to carry out legitimate campaign activities without intimidation or violence.
