Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission against manipulating the 2027 general elections, alleging that its recent activities point to preparations for rigging.
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, made the allegation in a post on his X handle on Sunday, insisting that any attempt to compromise the polls would be resisted.
“The activities of INEC in recent times point at anticipatory rigging. Which will be resisted,” he wrote.
The former lawmaker urged the commission to redeem its image ahead of the elections, declaring that Nigerians would not tolerate electoral manipulation.
“INEC must be born again this time because we will not allow rigging. Rig and say your final prayer,” he added.
Melaye has remained a vocal critic of the electoral commission since the 2023 general elections.
His latest remarks come amid controversy over AI-generated photographs reportedly discovered in INEC’s preliminary voters’ register and complaints by political parties about the omission of some candidates from the commission’s final list.
