Flamingos captain set sights on U-17 World Cup trophy

Nigeria U-17 women’s team captain,  Harmony Chidi, says winning the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy would be an unforgettable moment for the players, the coaches and Nigeria.

Chidi shared this in an interview published on FIFA’s website on Friday, November 6, 2026 ahead of the Flamingos’ final against Japan at the 2026 tournament in Morocco.

“I think it would be a great thing, a joy, and would never be forgotten in life,” she said.

The captain described reaching the final as a massive achievement in itself but lifting the trophy would take that joy to a completely different level.

“Reaching the final is a very big thing, it’s a great thing and it’s something that we have dreamed of,” she said.

“Winning would be something myself, my country, my team-mates, our coaches, and everybody would be proud of.”

After suffering a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening match, the team  bounced back with five consecutive victories against Puerto Rico, DPR Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil to secure their place in the final.

Now, just one game stands between Nigeria and history.

The Flamingos will face Japan with a chance to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
