Afghan forces rescue abducted schoolchild, arrest three suspects

Afghan security operatives have rescued a schoolchild abducted in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan and arrested three suspects in connection with the incident.

The child was reportedly kidnapped while travelling from home to school in Police District 7 of Kandahar city, the provincial capital.

Asadullah Jamshidi, spokesman for the provincial police, said the kidnappers subsequently demanded a substantial ransom from the child’s family in exchange for the victim’s release.

According to the official, security forces launched an operation after receiving intelligence about the suspects’ hideout.

The operation led to the child’s rescue and the arrest of all three suspected kidnappers.

The suspects have been handed over to judicial authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The incident comes amid reports of other kidnapping cases in Afghanistan in recent days.
