ASUU Strike!: Total shut down declared at UNIPORT

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, chapter of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, has declared an indefinite strike on academic activities over the alleged failure to implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement signed in December 2025.

The action, as said by the branch chairperson, Professor Omeh Obasi Ngwoke, was prompted by alleged illegalities within the institution.

Ngwoke explained that the union had held several engagements with the university management and exercised patience in the hope that its outstanding salaries would be paid in full, in accordance with federal government directives.

He added that the union could no longer tolerate the continued non-payment of salaries, forcing it to embark on strike.

“What we are being owed is far greater than what we receive; we just have to resolute the revolution of Congress, so we have activated indefinite local strike in the University of Port Harcourt,” he said.
