Baba Ijesha exposes Sunday Igboho’s secret support

Baba Ijesha has opened up about how Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho backed him financially and arranged phone conversations with him from behind bars.

The Nollywood actor, while speaking during a meeting between Igboho and veteran broadcaster Kolo Olootu, revealed that Igboho maintained contact with him despite being detained in the Republic of Benin.

Baba Ijesha also disclosed that the activist would arrange for prison officials to make their calls possible.

“He used to send money to me. He would call the prison authorities and ask them to give me the phone. They would tell me it was Igboho calling and ask, ‘Are they sure? Has he been released?’” he said.

Confirming the cross-border connection, Igboho stated they maintained contact while Baba Ijesha was imprisoned in Nigeria and he was being held in Cotonou.

”When I was in detention in Cotonou, Baba Ijesha was also in prison in Nigeria, and we used to call each other,” he explained.

Baba Ijesha spent more than three years in custody following his conviction in a case involving the sexual assault of a minor. He was released from prison in November 2025.
