Borno: NOA urges calm over reported Ebola outbreak

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, in Borno State has urged residents to remain calm and observe preventive measures following reports of an Ebola outbreak in Abuja.
The agency’s State Director, Michael Bdliya, gave the advice in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Wednesday by its Head of Communication and Media, Danladi Emmanuel.
Bdliya directed Community Mobilisation Officers across the state’s 27 local government areas to begin sensitisation campaigns on Ebola prevention.
He instructed the officers to work with traditional and religious leaders, community associations, schools, market groups and health workers to disseminate accurate information.
The agency advised residents to maintain personal and environmental hygiene, wash their hands regularly with soap and clean water, and use alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
It also urged residents to dispose of waste properly, avoid contact with suspected cases and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms.
Bdliya cautioned against rumours and misinformation, urging residents to rely on credible information from relevant health authorities.
He said the agency was collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the Borno State Ministry of Health to monitor developments and provide updates.
