Court ruling won’t stop Atiku’s campaign — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has insisted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will continue his presidential campaign despite Thursday’s Federal High Court judgment nullifying his nomination for the 2027 election.

The party’s National Legal Adviser, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, said the ADC remained confident that the judgment would be overturned.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Osunbor maintained that Atiku’s campaign was proceeding without disruption.

“Our presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) and the presidential campaign is going on, unperturbed because we believe that this judgment will not stand and cannot stand,” he said.

The former Edo State governor also expressed confidence in Atiku’s presidential ambition, describing him as a source of hope for Nigerians.

“Our presidential candidate, former vice president, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, has been offering hope for Nigerians; real hope, not deceptive hope,” Osunbor stated.

His remarks followed a judgment by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the leadership of the ADC headed by former Senate President David Mark.

The court also invalidated actions taken by the Mark-led executives, including the primary election that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.

The judgment arose from a suit filed by the party’s former Deputy National Chairman (North-East), Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the process through which Mark and other national officers assumed leadership of the ADC.

The opposition party has rejected the judgment and announced its intention to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
