Ekiti: Only enemy of progress will declare 2030 interest with Oyebanji starting 2nd tenure – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said any politician who signifies interest to contest for the 2030 governorship election in Ekiti State while Governor Biodun Oyebanji is just starting his second term is an "enemy of progress."

Tinubu warned that starting political campaigns too early could take away attention from Oyebanji's work and weaken the government's performance.

The President, who was represented by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, spoke at a thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel in Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, to celebrate Oyebanji's second-term start.

Oyebanji and his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, were officially sworn in for their second term on Friday at the Ekitiparapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti.

However, Tinubu said: "Let's support this administration. Let's support Ekiti.Being loyal to Governor Oyebanji means being loyal to Ekiti.

"When we are loyal, we won't interfere or start saying we want to take his place too soon.

"Anyone who says they want to be governor in the next three years is against progress.

"Remember, once you talk about running for governor, it causes distraction.

"Don't see politics as the only thing in Ekiti. Think about other areas and focus on what is best for Ekiti as a whole."
