Five seriously injured as 40-foot truck rams into two buses in Lagos

Five passengers were seriously injured after a 40-foot HOWO truck rammed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, around the Ojodu axis of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said in a statement that the crash involved an interstate commercial Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus. The five injured persons comprised three females and two males, including the driver.

“Reports indicate that the heavy-duty truck, travelling out of Lagos, rammed into the two commercial passenger vehicles, resulting in serious injuries to several occupants,” the statement said.

LASTMA operatives rescued the victims with support from security personnel attached to Isheri Police Station. Volunteer motorists, accompanied by LASTMA officials, transported the injured passengers to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at Toll Gate for medical assessment and treatment.

According to the agency, the crash caused heavy traffic congestion, with queues stretching back to Otedola Bridge. LASTMA officials cleared the truck and both buses from the road to prevent further accidents and ease traffic flow.

The vehicles were subsequently handed over to the police for investigation into the cause of the crash and any necessary legal action.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.

He stressed the need for responsible driving, compliance with road safety regulations and regular maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles. He warned that mechanical faults, reckless driving and loss of control could cause serious accidents.

The agency urged truck operators to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and advised motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic directives to prevent avoidable crashes.
