Adamawa, Kano and Bauchi recorded the slowest month-on-month increases in food inflation among Nigerian states in September 2026, amid rising food price pressures across the country.

This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, September 2026 Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report.

The data showed that food inflation rose at the slowest pace in Adamawa(-13.84 percent), Kano(-11.01 per cent) and Bauchi(-10.21) on a month-on-month basis, indicating relatively slower increases in food prices in the three states during the period under review.

Meanwhile, Imo, Ondo and Oyo recorded the highest month-on-month increases in food inflation in September.

On a year-on-year basis, Taraba, Yobe and Borno recorded the slowest food inflation rates among states in the country.

In contrast, Lagos, Imo and Ondo recorded the highest year-on-year food inflation rates at 33.40 per cent, 33.79 per cent and 31.49 per cent, respectively.

The figures highlight differences in food price movements across states, with some locations experiencing slower increases while others continued to face significant food inflation.

DAILY POST reports that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased to 14.64 per cent in September 2026 from 15.39 per cent in August.

However, food inflation increased slightly to 19.59 per cent in September from 19.57 per cent recorded in the preceding month, indicating that food price pressures persisted despite the decline in the overall inflation rate.
