Four killed, two injured as gunmen attack Niger communities

Four people were killed and two others seriously injured when unidentified gunmen attacked two communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, the police have confirmed.

The attack occurred at about 1:30am on Wednesday, September 23, in Godoro and Angwan-Bisala communities under Katako District.

The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.

Abiodun said the armed men stormed the two communities in the early hours of the day and opened an attack that left four residents dead and two others seriously injured.

He said the injured victims were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Following the attack, Abiodun said police personnel visited the affected communities and commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police spokesperson did not disclose the identities of the victims or provide details on the motive of the attackers.

The incident adds to security concerns in parts of Niger State, although the police statement did not establish any connection between the attack and previous incidents in the area.

The authorities are expected to investigate the attack and work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
