By Ibrahim Bakare

The convoy of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on an official visit to Rivers State on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, rammed and damaged the toll gate barricades at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

Disu’s visit was anchored on three main events, including a book launch organised by a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, 96-year-old Dame Stella Obuoforibo Okuyiga.

The police boss, who served in Rivers State as Commissioner of Police years before his appointment as IGP, paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at Government House, Port Harcourt. According to him, it was a ‘thank you visit’ to the police formation he last served as Commissioner of Police.

He also interacted with serving police officers at the Rivers State Police Command, where he briefed them on preparations for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

However, the toll gate barricades, manned by Atlantic Biscoe Nigeria Ltd., the concessionaire managing toll gate revenue services, were rammed by the IGP’s convoy in a reckless manner on his way out of the airport.

An eyewitness account stated that the IGP’s convoy did not use the exit end of the VIP route designated for such high-ranking security officers. Instead, they rammed the iron barricade, putting Atlantic Biscoe Nigeria Ltd. staff in harm’s way.

According to a senior official of the concessionaire, this breach of protocol and airport security has led to a loss of revenue for the company.

This reporter later sent a notification of what transpired at Omagwa Airport to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju. He also delivered a written mail to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Blessing Agabe Esq. However, no response has come from either of them as of press time.

Part of the note reads: “Good Evening, PPRO. How are you? My name is Ibrahim Bakare, from PM NEWS. Please, I would appreciate your official reaction to an alleged incident of misconduct involving the convoy of the Inspector-General of Police yesterday at the local wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport. Your prompt response will be highly appreciated as we seek to establish the facts and ensure balanced and accurate reporting.”

A text sent to a Personal Assistant to the IGP at Louis Edet House, FCT Abuja, was also not replied to.

The insensitive actions of the law enforcement officers in broad daylight constituted a breach of the security architecture at the Port Harcourt International Airport premises.

Few days before the arrival of the Inspector General of Police, an individual who is a Rivers State-born politician also misbehaved by ramming his car against the barricades and badly destroying the security barricade materials.
