Iranian President Pezeshkian speaks on possible assassination amid fears of fresh US strikes

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian talked about his possible assassination on Tuesday, amid growing apprehension about fresh strikes by the United States military.

The head of government's remarks followed the limited US strikes in the Strait of Hormuz and Qeshm Island on Monday after Iranian forces reportedly fired at a US aircraft.

Pezeshkian stressed that a return to war would benefit "no one" and reiterated Tehran's commitment to resolving the conflict through dialogue, negotiation, and non-coercive measures.

He, however, reaffirmed the people's steadfastness despite the immense military and economic pressure, as Iran faces soaring inflation near 90 per cent, a crashing currency, and diminished oil exports.

"Let them assassinate me," the President bristled. "Even if they assassinate thousands of people like me, the enemy will not be able to do a damn thing."

The leader declared that Iran is ready for a situation where it has to cut off gas and electricity to certain areas to keep supplies to production facilities, to ensure they remain operational.

Iranian officials have maintained that the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Washington addresses its conditions, including lifting naval blockades, easing oil sanctions, and stopping military operations.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the US military is preparing for a possible strike on Iran, which could come this week after the midterm elections.
