ISWAP shura council member, top commanders fall as troops repel Borno attack

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have reportedly taken down a senior ISWAP Shura Council member and other commanders while repelling a major attack on their positions in Kukawa, Borno State.
The encounter took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, when ISWAP fighters attacked troops deployed in the area.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Abu Hajara, a prominent member of the group’s Shura Council, was among those reportedly neutralised during the clash.
Also named was Abul Walid, a senior commander and close associate of ISWAP’s overall Wali, Ba Shuwa.
Two high-ranking Arab fighters were also reportedly neutralised.
Makama said troops repelled the attack using ground firepower and support from the Air Component, inflicting casualties on the attackers.
Arms, ammunition and communication devices were recovered after the engagement.
The clash came three days after a reported military operation in Buni Yadi, where 55 terrorists, including key commanders, were said to have been neutralised.
