Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to consider the plight of students and embrace dialogue to resolve the prolonged industrial strike at Taraba State University, TSU, Jalingo.
The governor made the appeal during a visit to the university, where he expressed concern over the disruption of academic activities and the uncertainty facing students as a result of the ongoing strike.
Kefas urged the union and other stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve outstanding issues and facilitate the resumption of academic activities.
"The prolonged industrial action negatively affects students’ academic progress, particularly those preparing for examinations under difficult circumstances," Kefas said.
The governor also assured the university community that legitimate staff entitlements and allowances would receive attention, emphasising the need to address genuine concerns through engagement and mutual understanding.
He called on the university management to intensify efforts towards resolving the dispute and strengthening security on campus to ensure a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
Beyond the strike, Kefas stressed the importance of technological advancement, scientific innovation and institutional collaboration in strengthening the university’s contribution to societal development.
He encouraged the institution to explore opportunities in science, engineering, research and partnerships with other institutions to promote academic excellence and sustainable development.
Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of TSU, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, expressed concern over the prolonged strike and called for urgent steps to resolve the dispute.
