Lagos police detain officer for allegedly gunning down one, injuring another in Ajegunle

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of its operative, ASP Omotayo Olajide, over the death of a little girl, Omole Taiwo, and the injury of another following a shooting incident in Ajegunle.
The incident occurred on Thursday in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle during a violent clash between two rival groups.
A statement issued on Saturday by the command's spokesperson, SP Abimola Adebisi, said the officer was deployed to the area following a clash between the Nosamu Boys and Alayabiagba Boys over toll collection.
The rival groups were reportedly armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons during the confrontation.
However, upon arriving at the scene, ASP Olajide allegedly discharged his firearm, with bullets hitting the two girls.
Adebisi said the victims were rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for treatment, but one of them was later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, where she eventually died.
She added that the second girl is currently receiving medical attention and is in stable condition.
"The Command is deeply saddened by the loss of a young and innocent life and shares in the grief of the bereaved family.
"ASP Olajide has been disarmed and detained, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for a thorough and impartial investigation.
"The inquiry will establish exactly what happened and determine the appropriate legal and disciplinary action. The Command will keep the public informed of its progress," the statement added.
