The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja, reiterated the importance of literacy, saying it is fundamental to personal empowerment and national development.
She disclosed this in her message to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the International Literacy Day 2026 with the theme — “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity,”
Tinubu emphasised the need for everyone to have access to equality education.
She further called for more attention to adult education and development to help the people acquire the right knowledge that would assist them in making informed decisions.
She said “when adults can read, write and acquire basic digital and financial skills, they are better equipped to improve their livelihoods, grow their businesses and support their children’s education.
“This important milestone provides another opportunity to renew our commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied the opportunity to learn because of age or circumstance.
“Let us work together to build a more literate, productive and prosperous nation. Happy International Literacy Day 2026.”
Tinubu had consistently championed education and literacy as vital tools for personal growth and national progress.
