Lookman on target as Atlético down Man. United
Quick Read
In the 79th minute, Lookman pounced on a rebound inside the box and rifled his finish into the middle of the net to make it 2-0, a classic Simeone-style dagger: absorb pressure, survive the key moments, then strike when the opponent overextends.

Ademola Lookman marked his impact off the bench with a late goal as Atletico Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0 on Tuesday, tightening their grip on a UEFA Champions League league-phase.
The contest was shaped by VAR interventions, missed chances and a decisive red card.
Atletico needed barely a minute to land their first punch. Alex Baena broke into space and fed Pablo Barrios, who finished low down the middle to give Diego Simeone’s side an immediate lead and the Metropolitan crowd a platform for the kind of controlled, abrasive performance they thrive on.
United responded with spells of possession and flashes of threat, particularly through Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes. Mbeumo forced Jan Oblak into a sharp save after racing onto a loose ball inside the area, while Fernandes repeatedly tried to inject tempo with set pieces and shots from distance.
Atletico, though, created the clearer openings as the half developed: Alejandro Grimaldo struck the post from a free kick, and Julian Alvarez later rattled the woodwork from point-blank range as United rode their luck.
Just before the break, Atletico thought they had doubled their advantage when Johnny Cardoso drove a fierce shot into the bottom-left corner, only for VAR to intervene. After the on-field review, the goal was disallowed for handball in the build-up, a moment that kept United alive and turned the second half into a test of whether they could punish a reprieve.
