Military aircraft crash: Search team makes additional recovery

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has announced the recovery of additional components from the ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The Air Force disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, noting that recovery operations were continuing at the accident site.

According to the NAF, specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) are conducting underwater search and recovery operations in collaboration with the Air Force recovery team.

The military said the multi-agency teams had been working day and night to retrieve relevant materials from the crash site for documentation and preservation as part of the ongoing investigation.

It added that the operation was being supported by hydrographic surveys, satellite-based search-and-rescue imagery, mud excavation and the pumping out of excess water to improve access to affected areas.

The NAF said the recovery efforts would continue as the teams worked to locate and retrieve additional materials relevant to the investigation.

The recovered aircraft components are expected to be documented and preserved to support the ongoing investigation into the accident.
