Mistura Adebayo in our custody, medical tests ongoing – Ogun govt

The Ogun State Government says Mistura Adebayo, a young girl reportedly found wandering on two occasions, is now in its custody as medical investigations begin in order to assess her health and determine the care she needs.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development disclosed this in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adebimpe Folusho Obienu, on Monday.
The ministry said its intervention followed reports brought to the attention of the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, by Adetoun Adejobi.
According to the statement, Adeleye contacted the Permanent Secretary, who coordinated the deployment of social workers to the police station where Mistura had been taken.
However, when the social workers arrived, they were informed that the girl had already been released to her grandmother.
The ministry said it received another report the following day that Mistura had been seen wandering again, prompting a fresh intervention that led to her being taken into government custody.
“Medical tests are ongoing to assess her health condition and determine whether she has any underlying issues that require further medical attention,” the ministry said.
“We will continue to take all necessary steps to protect Mistura and ensure that she receives appropriate and lasting care in her best interests,” the ministry said.
The ministry also urged residents to report cases of gender-based violence, child abuse, neglect, exploitation and other issues that threaten the safety and welfare of women and children.
“Prompt reporting can save lives and protect vulnerable persons. We urge residents to speak up whenever they encounter situations that threaten the safety and welfare of women and children,” the ministry said.
