Nasarawa police announce traffic diversion, movement restrictions ahead of Tinubu’s visit to Lafia

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversion and movement restrictions across designated parts of Lafia ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The rally is expected to coincide with the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state capital and attract government officials, political leaders, party supporters and other dignitaries across the country.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the measures were part of comprehensive security and traffic management arrangements designed to ensure the safety of the President, his entourage, rally participants and members of the public.

According to the statement, the temporary restrictions will affect designated routes, adjoining roads and strategic locations within Lafia metropolis to facilitate the movement of the presidential convoy and ensure effective crowd control.

The Command consequently advised motorists, commercial tricycle operators, motorcycle riders and other road users to cooperate with security personnel, obey traffic regulations and follow directives at designated diversion points.

Commuters were also urged to plan their journeys ahead of time, allow for possible delays and use alternative routes as directed by security operatives.

Business owners, transport operators and residents within the affected areas were equally advised to make necessary arrangements for their daily activities ahead of the temporary restrictions.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, appealed to residents to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with security personnel throughout the period.

He particularly cautioned against unnecessary movement around restricted areas, urging everyone without legitimate business at the rally venue and designated security zones to stay away.

The Commissioner also called on political stakeholders and supporters of different political parties to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order.

The statement further urged opposition parties and other political groups to respect the rights of others and uphold peaceful political participation throughout the event.

“The Command assures the public that adequate security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the metropolis to maintain law and order, manage traffic, protect lives and property, and ensure the peaceful and successful conduct of the Presidential campaign rally,” the statement read.

The police also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, unattended objects or other security concerns to the nearest police station.

While expressing regret over the inconvenience the temporary arrangements might cause, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining a peaceful and secure environment across the state.
