NSCDC arrests man over alleged defilement of 8-year-old girl in Kebbi
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested a 38-year-old man over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Fana village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident was confirmed by the Secretary of the Kebbi Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, Nasir Idris, in a statement made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
Idris said the girl’s parents reported the alleged incident to the NSCDC in Kamba, after which the survivor was taken to the Mai Talle Tara Sexual Assault Referral Centre, SARC, in Kalgo, for medical examination and documentation.
He said the NSCDC subsequently took the suspect to the Kebbi State Command for detention and further legal proceedings.
According to Idris, the suspect complained of ill health on arrival, prompting the officers to defer his detention pending a medical examination.
He said members of the Technical Working Group on GBV rejected a proposal for the survivor’s parents to bear the cost of the suspect’s medical examination.
Idris said the medical examination found no serious medical condition, while NSCDC officers assured the GBV working group that the suspect would be taken before the appropriate court for further proceedings.
