Ogun govt, security agencies meet principals ahead of school resumption
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, has charged Principals and Headteachers across the state on the need to make every school environment clean, safe, functional and conducive for a robust teaching and learning process.
Arigbabu gave the charge during Day 3 of a Pre-resumption Stakeholders meeting involving Principals, Headteachers and Security Agencies at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
He noted that the leadership of principals and headteachers, their supervision, discipline and commitment would largely determine the extent to which the government’s investment and intervention would translate into improved educational outcomes.
The Commissioner enjoined all school heads to move from merely understanding government policies to actively implementing and enforcing them within their schools, adding that they should also take ownership of the maintenance and protection of government-provided infrastructure and school facilities.
He emphasised the need for school heads to maintain strict adherence to the free education policy of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration, reminding them that the government had not changed its decision to appropriately deal with any culprit caught in the act of collecting any illegal fee from either learners or parents.
Speaking, the Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Abiodun Sanyaolu, represented by Commissioner III in the Commission, Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, said the stakeholders meeting was a timely programme aimed at providing opportunities to take stock, align plans and ensure that schools resume in an atmosphere that is safe and orderly.
Welcoming stakeholders to the programme, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Oluwatosin Oloko charged Principals, Headteachers and teachers to put all hands on deck to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in the 2026/2027 academic session.
Remarking, the Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Olamilekan Ifede, said the fight against the out-of-school challenge in society should be done collectively, noting that the present administration is committed to ensuring that every child in the state could read, write and communicate effectively.
Appreciating Governor Dapo Abiodun for prompt payment of salary, running cost and other remunerations, the President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State Chapter, Mr Alaba Olugbewesa and Chairman, Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Ogun State Chapter, Tajudeen Adeosun, pledged their continuous commitment to diligent implementation of all State educational policies and directives.
In their separate comments, Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, represented by Commandant, Federal Highway Patrol, CSP Kehinde Oyekangun, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, Remilekun Ekundayo represented by Head of Unit Safe School Initiative, ACC, Mobolaji Adedipe, among other heads of security stated that the issue of security in the state and the nation at large should be seen as collective responsibility of all, assured that the security operatives were working tirelessly to ensure safety of lives and property especially in schools across the state.
