Olympics qualifiers: Eguavoen confirms Ajibade taken to hospital

Super Falcons coach, Austin Eguavoen has said that the team’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, who suffered an injury during their 5-0 win over Comoros on Tuesday, was taken straight to the hospital.
The Super Falcons defeated Comoros 7-0 on aggregate, securing a fixture against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the third round of the 2028 Olympic women’s football qualifiers.
The second-leg match, held on Tuesday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, ended in a commanding 5-0 victory for Nigeria. Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu each scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe added a penalty.
The Super Falcons’ dominant performance was marred by an injury to their captain, who was stretchered off in the 23rd minute following a collision with a Comoros defender.
During the post-match press conference, Eguavoen disclosed that Ajibade would undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine the extent of the injury sustained during the match against Comoros.
“Ajibade, I have not heard anything. I was with the medical team, and they said they were taking her to the hospital for an MRI to ascertain the degree of the injury,” Eguavoen told reporters.
“Hopefully, before we get back to the hotel, we will know. As soon as we have information, I’m not the one to give it. The medical team will contact the Head of Media, and then we’ll get an update on Ajibade’s injury.
“Regrettably, we were deprived of Ajibade’s participation early in the contest. I believe and trust that the injury is relatively minor.”
Ajibade was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in France, where she started all three of the Super Falcons’ matches against Brazil, Spain and Japan.
