Police, army, teachers strengthen security partnership in Taraba
The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbeghagha, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Army, educational institutions and other stakeholders to enhance security across the state.
Ogbeghagha made the commitment in Jalingo on Wednesday when he received the Garrison Commander of 10 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. M.A. Oloyede, alongside delegations from the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Taraba State chapter, at the command headquarters.
The commissioner said sustained inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing and joint operations were essential to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining lasting peace in Taraba.
According to him, the visits were aimed at strengthening existing partnerships and promoting coordinated efforts to address security challenges across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Oloyede said his interaction with the police command was intended to further strengthen the cordial relationship and operational synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the collaboration remained important in the collective efforts to maintain peace and respond effectively to security challenges in Taraba and neighbouring areas.
Ogbeghagha assured the Army of the command’s continued support for joint security operations and intelligence sharing.
In a related development, the PCRC Safe School Club also paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner, outlining its plans to strengthen school safety through partnerships with educational authorities and the training of school safety volunteers.
The group said its activities would also focus on promoting security awareness in schools and fostering positive relationships among the police, students, teachers and educational institutions.
The commissioner commended the initiative and pledged the command’s support for programmes designed to improve safety awareness and crime prevention in schools across the state.
Similarly, the ASUSS delegation engaged the police command on measures to improve the safety of teachers, students and educational facilities in Taraba.
Discussions during the meeting covered school safety, emergency response, information sharing and closer collaboration between educational institutions and security agencies.
Ogbeghagha assured the union of the command’s readiness to provide necessary support and reiterated the police command’s commitment to creating a safe environment conducive to teaching and learning.
The commissioner described security as a collective responsibility and urged stakeholders and members of the public to support the police through cooperation, partnership and timely sharing of information.
He said the command’s Safe School initiative remained open to collaboration with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the protection of schools across Taraba.
The command, he added, would continue to deepen partnerships with sister security agencies, educational institutions, community-based organisations and other stakeholders towards building a safer Taraba State.
