The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a night robbery operation in Ota, neutralising an armed robbery suspect and recovering two vehicles and a cache of stolen property.

The operation was carried out by operatives of Onipanu Division, under Ota Area Command, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babasheyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta.

Babasheyi said the incident occurred at Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, at about 1:45 am, following a distress call from a concerned citizen.

According to him, the responding patrol team promptly mobilised to the location. On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers opened fire, prompting an immediate tactical response.

"The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries," he said.

He said a search conducted after the encounter led to the recovery of two vehicles, a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, alongside suspected stolen items.

Other items include HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an OPay ATM card and other household items.

Also recovered from the deceased suspect were a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number, NIN, cards and cash.

Babasheyi said the Command has intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have sustained gunshot injuries.

He added that investigations are ongoing to establish ownership of the recovered vehicles and exhibits and determine their possible links to other criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response, professionalism and courage.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command's commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing and rapid response to security concerns, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the police.
